PCG Efficiency FAQs
- Why should I look at updating my lighting and mechanical systems?
- How does your company measure and verify the savings that you project?
- What does your company recommend I reduce first, the price I pay for electricity or the amount of electricity I use?
- What facilities are the best candidates for financing options?
- How much can I save if your company looks at upgrading my facilities?
- Does your company have the capability to provide all personnel (to include dedicated project manager), tools, equipment, transportation, material, and supervision needed to safely and efficiently perform the energy cost saving projects?
- Does your company have the capability to perform the construction efforts to include site security (fencing, lighting, and/or guard service) as required by the energy cost saving project?
- Does your company have the capability to provide all required facilities to house its field operations? (Note: the Government will provide sites on post for construction trailers and outdoor-construction material storage)
Many of today's existing buildings have electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and control systems that have outlived their useful life and are energy inefficient. PCG Energy can engineer and install new systems and controls, guarantee the resulting energy savings and finance the entire project often without any of your capital dollars being used. According to ENERGY STAR many facilities can reduce their energy bills by 40 to 50 percent through energy efficient solutions.
We abide by the industry accepted guidelines of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). While there are multiple ways to measure and verify demand-side savings projections, the ultimate method that gets used is determined in consultation with you and based on the particular energy conservation measure being installed, your comfort level with our calculations, and the economics of the particular method.
Measuring supply-side savings is much easier. We simply take your current energy usage and calculate what you would have paid at your old rates. We then compare this amount to your current bill to determine the actual savings.
It depends on where your facility is located. Generally, the cheapest kilowatt hour is the one you don't use, which would argue for starting on the demand side. By working with a company like PCG, however, you are able to attack both simultaneously. In many cases, the nature of your load profile is critical in determining the price you pay for each unit of electricity. By reviewing both opportunities simultaneously, you are able to make demand reduction decisions that get you better supply prices.
PCG Energy provides financing for a facility that needs major capital improvements within its energy infrastructure, but that lacks the company capital or financing to do the project.
The amount of money you can save on your utility bills can be substantial and depends on a number of factors: age and type of equipment, run hours, energy rates, and efficiency of your buildings. Our experience validates EPA estimates that savings can range from $.30 to as much as a $1.00 per square foot. Keep in mind, however, that the energy savings are actually being diverted to pay for your infrastructure improvements. Of course, any excess savings generated from the upgrades are yours to keep; we don’t believe in “shared savings” programs where the energy services company keeps a portion of the extra dollars. It’s really a question of how you would rather spend your money—with the utility company, or on your facilities. Contact us and we can help determine what your savings could be.
Yes. PCG Energy’s full time project managers and auditors are dedicated to oversee each energy project. PCG has expertise in deploying "retro-fit" teams to accomplish the upgrades as staff or sub-contractors, which reduces overhead. PCG Energy acts as the coordinating entity and provides a consolidated proposal to the facility owner. We have the experience to provide the right combination of personnel, tools, equipment, and transportation to efficiently perform cost saving projects.
Yes. PCG Energy can provide site security lighting services and has experience subcontracting construction efforts to include fencing, guard service and other services as required.
Yes. For most PCG Energy projects, staffs operate from temporary facilities. We also employ a combination of local staff and home office staff traveling to the site to support the projects. For longer duration projects, such as our recent Altus Air Force Base project, we rented nearby facilities for our construction staffs. We are always open to establish a presence on base or government property, as permitted, for the duration of a project. We expect the Government will provide sites on post for construction trailers and outdoor-construction material storage.
