
Tinker Air Force Base achieves energy savings
with lighting and controls upgrade
PCG Worldwide in conjunction with the Tinker AFB local utility, Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OGE) conduction an investment grade audit, design and implementation of 6 major facilities on the Air Force Base located in Midwest City, OK. The performance contracting tool of a Utility Energy Services Contract (UESC) was employed to guarantee the savings for the upgrade of the subject offices and hangars on the base.
Project Scope
Use of Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs), Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lights (CCFLs) and Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to replace existing incandescent lamps were used in office and common spaces throughout project. T12 technology was upgraded and delamped where appropriate. T5 technology was designed to replace various High Intensity Discharge (HIDs) fixtures in areas where the Air Force services and maintains their fleet of aircraft.
Results
- Financing of project is handled through shared saving between OGE and TAFB
- Estimated Energy Savings: 38,500 kW and 110,000 kWh annually or 10,500 MMBTU
- Project Payback Period: 4.5 years without consideration of energy escalation
