Altus Air Force Base reduces energy
through lighting upgrade
Dedicated to providing superior flight training for over 60 years, Altus Air Force base is also committed to being a responsible community partner and Federal government team member. As a result, the base responded proactively when called upon to meet Executive Order 13123, which requires all federal agencies to reduce energy use by 35 percent by 2010. PCG Worldwide helped the AAFB initiate and complete a lighting upgrade in 2005 that significantly reduced energy costs and consumption while improving lighting quality, facility aesthetics and work productivity.

Project Scope
Upgrade of old T12 fluorescent lamps, magnetic ballasts, and inefficient incandescent and HID lighting technology across 93 buildings on the base to a system involving more efficient fluorescent T8, fluorescent T5/HO, and compact fluorescent lamps driven by electronic ballasts to improve light levels and reduce energy costs and maintenance concerns.
Results
- The base reduced its energy and operational costs significantly and improved comfort for the nearly 5,000 troops and civilians it employs
- Estimated Energy Savings: Annual energy reduction of 6,074, 554 kWh
- Project Payback Period: 4 years, reflecting an ROI of 25%
- Crew and residents enjoy a more standardized and modern lighting system that enhance lighting quality while minimizing maintenance concerns
- The base is now fully compliant with all federal energy mandates
